Battery Died When Turned On Passenger Air Bag...Help Please!

So I was driving my 1999 Mazda B2500 today with my wife and noticed at a stoplight that the passenger airbag was off. At a long light, I cut the car off and put the key in to turn the airbag off. When I went to start the car again, nothing happened...no clicking, blinking lights, nothing

I was able to jump the car and drive the 15 min home. The battery appears to now be dead.

Does anyone know why turning on the airbag would suddenly kill the battery? Anyone have any ideas what is wrong?

Best guess, turning the air bag on didn't kill the battery. I'll bet your alternator is getting weak and when you shut your engine off it didn't have the juice to start it back up.

The engine can run on as little as 5 volts, but it takes a minimum of 10 to 11 to start it.

It just by chance that your battery died while you noticed the air bag light. Your battery was already dead or dieing before you turned on the air bag. Probably wouldn't have started on the next time. Get your battery tested and see if you need a new one. Also check the battery connections to make sure those are clean and good contact.

And given the age (and probable mileage) of your truck, consider testing and possibly replacing the alternator as well.
