Just found out today that both sides upper and lower ball joints are warn terribly and should be replaced soon on my 2007 ford ranger 4x4 sport at 62000Ks...... All i do is take my dirt bike up the mountain on the weekends as far as off roding goes. I have a quote for just a little over 5hun to do all of them. I'm just wondering if this is a good price and if anyone else has had the same problem. There should be a solid axle in these trucks instead of the stupid IFS. Thanx:beer:

I had all 4 go on me! I was quoted 700 and it was the best price I could find. My only issue in your case is your trucks balls went at less than 40, 000 miles and 3 years of age(Im just praying ford will help you out via warrenty!!!)

My truck was 10.7 years old and had 120,000 miles (or 193121 Kilos) when the balljoints went bad

do it yourself and it wont cost much more than 100

If he has all the tools. Ummm it was more cost effective to me to just pay the shop and lifetime warrenty the parts. I really think Ford might pay for him to get the work done

Warranty's over

The warranty is over in every way. Its over 3 years old + over 60000ks so ford wont help. But 500 is a good price to get it fixed then?

I find it odd that the ball joints are gone in 3 years off a new truck.

But 500 is a reasonable price. You could do it Lots cheaper yourself.

But. Here is what I would do. Find better ball joints somewhere else cheaper and then bring them to the mechanic.

Cuzz for 500 I think you are getting the cheap ball joints.

Get the cheapest balljoints you can still get a great (preferably lifetime) warranty on. For future reference get the best warranty possible every time you buy a replacement part

You can rent tools at most auto parts stores (at least where I'm from)

All you do it put down a deposit and when you bring the tools back you get your money back.

I did all my ball joints not to long ago for far less than 500 bucks. I think I did it for under 200.

Why?

im just gunna drive it till it getts really bad and then ill just bite the bullet. I would love to do them my self but i really would rather somone who knows what they are doing work on my truck. I am not totally incompetent working on a truck but I just don't feel comfortable with a job this big. If im takin the knuckle off ill be replacing it with a much larger one supplied by superlift so I can really save some money. hahah does anyone have any theories as to why they might have gone so soon? I don't wheel it hard! Thanx:beer:

Find someone with experience to give you a hand, you'll learn and save and they'll make a few bucks.

Driving truck with bad frontend parts is a very very dangerous practice. Get MOOG parts and grease them regularly. $500 is a good price. Warranties are usually just for parts which in this case is $150 of the total cost

I have no idea why they only lasted 40k. They might have been defective and not sealed properly. They were sealed. Correct? No grease fitting on them correct?

They are sealed units. What tools do you need to do it?

I have never done 4x4 before, but i think you will need a ball joint press and the special socket that removes the nut holding the wheel bearing/ knuckle on.
