Thanks to all that helped me thru an engine swap. 1998 Ranger supercab, 3.0, 5 speed manual we picked up with a blown engine. Replaced all clutch/throwout components during engine swap. Overall truck runs/drives great. Tranny seems slightly balky going into 1st or 2nd at slow speeds going either up or down. Tranny fluid was changed and clutch is bled perfectly, plenty of release. Dont know if this is the nature of these trannies or Im just being picky. Its just not too slick. 123k miles, worn shifter forks?

Thanks, FM

Since it is a common mistake I have to ask, did you use ATF or gear oil in the trans? It should have Mercon ATF.

You had me thinking for a minute so I went and checked. I used my local NAPA brand DExtron/Mercon.

Like I said, its not bad but I cant imagine the tranny in these trucks are very heavy. Seems a little stiff to shift at times and I find best just to shift slowly.
