My friend is wondering how hard it would be to swap out his barely breathing 4.3 from his 1991 baja s-10 for a 4.0 out of a 93 explorer. So far I was wondering if the frame widths are the same, and if there is a u-joint that fits the front drive shaft but connects to the Borg Warner 1354E t-case or the other way around or if we have to swap the front TTB axle off of the explorer to make it even more badass. :icon_twisted: lol

If there is anything we forgot please chime in.:icon_thumby:

Drop in a 350...it will be eaiser with alot more power....and use a carb, to make it real easy...

later,
Dustin

how dare you suggest such things:icon_surprised:. jp. you can make custom motor mounts and spicer makes a couple conversion joints. You just need the 2 joint numbers and then it would be easy to find something or get it made. but wut rusty said the 350 is easier in the s-10...really a plug and play swap there

Well were kinda scavengers and the 4.0 is just sitting in my explorer and since we both don't have jobs we kinda ruled out getting a 350 unless we find one really cheap.

The reason I suggest it is to try and make a chevy a little better.
and I don't think any motor should spray gas and OIL out of the intake when you apply a little throttle plus the 4.3 basically needs a whole new valvetrain along with a rebuild.

the previous owner drove this truck HARD :icon_surprised:

I think you should scavenge a free Astro van and just replace the 4.3

the cheapest 4.3L vehicle is around $428 and it has 200,000 miles :icon_surprised:
people can be pricks with prices :annoyed:

For a whole vehicle you probably won't find much cheaper.

Figure you can also sell major parts off of it and scrap the rest as well.

But keep looking as winter ramps up, SUV's don't fare well with the 10' tall and bulletproof syndrome 4wd gives the drivers.
