I have a 94 ranger with the 2.3 5 speed overdrive tranny.Im having trouble with my clutch so i removed the tranny and when i got it out i noticed that the front shaft that goes in the clutch and pressure plate moves back and forth and wobbles and the gears wont turn unless you push back on the shaft. Is this normal or is the tranny shot?Excuse my ignorance but im no tranny expert. thanks

sounds like ur input shaft bearing took a shit, time to open it up and take a looksie if its that bad odds are the remains of the bearings did damage elsewhere

bad tranny

Assuming the bearing didnt do anymore damage how hard is that bearing to replace yourself and where can a soul get one?thanks

Sounds to me like this maybe beyond your mechanical abilities. More than likely the whole transmission will need to be gone through, if you were to replace just the two input shaft bearings it probably be just a band-aid fix (more than likely it will need other parts and pieces besides bearings). Either get it looked at by a reputable re builder that won't charge you an arm and a leg just for them to take a look at to see if it's worth it to be rebuilt, or just buy used one from a salvage yard that will give you some kind of warranty.
