So I don't have a lot of experience where I can tell what sounds are good and what sounds are not. So I have to go by comparisons to other cars and such. So, with that out of the way...
My wife has a 98 Malibu with 135k on it. All four struts are noisy. They pass the bounce test, but on the rebound they all make a "whooshing" sound like they're sucking in air. It's extremely annoying because you hear it in the cabin over every tiny bump. I know it's ah... ahem, cost-efficient car, is this a sign of struts on their way out, already gone, or just cheap parts?
For the record, my 00 Accord, which just hit 146k and has never had the struts changed (that I know of), definitely do not make any noise...
