I got the entire truck done the other day and now it has no balls. its top speed is like 25. Its a 69 mustang 302 with a edelbrock carb on it. when you hit the gas it sputters and slowly climbs rpms. I put new plugs new wires on it and still no change. I tried timing it and still no change. its getting a steady flow of fuel and is getting air and spark but it runs like crap. The only thing else I think would be to clean the carb again or start from scratch and try timing it again. It has to be running by monday or else I wont have a ride to school or work so if any one has an input please do. thanks

I had the same problem once because I used the 302 firing order and should have used the 351 firing order. The 5.0 HO uses the 351 firing order.

I just tried that last night and it didnt work at all. It wouldnt even atemt to fire. Then after a lot of reving it hard I could hear a sucking noise. I think it may be an intake leak. putting a new edelbrock performer on tonight after work. I hope an intake leak can cause the how crappy the motor is running.

Spray joints between the carb/intake and intake/heads with something like brake cleaner or WD-40. If the engine revs up there is your leak.

Edelbrock has a series on Youtube about how to install, set, check, and tune your carb too. If you are getting your carb new it will come on DVD with it as well.

What are you running for a fuel pump? How old is the fuel filter(s)?

I'm running a Holley blue fuel pump with new filter. I'm almost done with intake finishing in the morning

OK, ignition on, pump running, pull the float level ports and see what happens,,, hopefully fuel does not poor out constantly. Or simply,,, look down carb and see if fuel is pouring in.

The blue pump is a bit over pressured for carb, I recommend the red pump if you can not adjust the floats properly.

Thats what I heard so I put a regulator on it and set it to 6 psi. The intake leak was only part of the problem. I fixed it and its still running like crap. I just dont get it. unless the motor is screwed up, but it ran perfect before the swap.

How did you set the ignition timing and what did you set it to ?

You still need to check float levels.

ok after a long day of work I found a few more problems. I swapped the carb out for a new edelbrock 600 cfm and it started right up. It ideled fine and it would rev up good at first and after the first little bit if you gave it half throttle it would die and give out. So I checked compression and got 125 in all cyl but number 3 was 115. Im going to check vacuum on it today after school. I may need a new motor or the heads done.

Is it flooding out?

I am jetting down my '87 with a 1403 (500CFM) because it is turning the oil black, a 600 would be worse yet. I am also putting in heavier springs to take care of it going lean and pinging at part throttle.

Just need the kit to show up...

If it ran good before the swap it should run just as well shortly after the swap.

No its not flooding. Its acting like its either not getting enough fuel or it has a valve problem. I just dont understand why it ran good then but wont run worth a crap now. Im about to go drop my diesel motor in it or buy another one. Taking it to my buddies shop today to see if he knows. he will trade me work for a motor I have
