i have a 4.0 rad in my 84 ranger with a 2.8....over heats....builds a lot of pressure...enough to blow off the rad hose, with the cap off it pushes out a lot of water and LOTS of steam. i am thinking it is the blown head

Sounds like pressure from the cylinder is making its way into the cooling system our from another source. Hopefully your t stat is working properly too.

and start the process...maybe just a gasket..but you'll find out soon...

just don't run it much..and get the water into the basement..

Or something as simple as the water pump is going out. The fins could be corroded down to almost nothing and not moving water through the block as they should be.

If ur heater works then ur water pump is working. Sounds like head gasket. But u could have a cracked head also if it got hot enough. U will know when u tear it apart. Also if ur timming is way off it could get hot as well.
