Bad Cat?

How can I tell if my Catalytic converter is clogged or going bad? After changing my clutch, I began having performance issues when accelerating. Once I hit 45 or so, the truck just stops accelerating. I have other hints of a clogged converter before so I thought this might be the issue. I took a few whacks at my cat with a hammer and performance improved, but not to where it should be. Does this sound like a bad catalytic converter?
 
yeah, sounds like the honeycomb on the inside of the cat is breaking apart, and clogging the exhaust outlet.

first you need to figure out why the cat failed in the first place. bad o2 sensors, engine out of time. lack of a tune up.

when you restore the mechanical condition of the engine, then replace the cat.
