93 4.0 5spd with the 1354 e shift case. In 2wd everything works fine. When in 4wd sometimes it feels like the clutch is gone in the truck or the syncros are bad in the trans as it becomes diffcult to get into gear. Once you get it in gear you have to let the clutch out slightly to bog down a bit then press it back it and it will shift fine. The double clutching method doesn't work. Take it out of 4x4 and everything works fine. The old odometer showed 285xxx miles on the truck but it would work off and on. Knowing theres over 300k on the truck ( 3rd owner) could chain be binding up due to slack in it causing the problem or should I look elsewhere. It does have a fairly new clutch in it. Any ideas? I changed all fluids about a month ago and things looked fine other than being dirty. No shavings and no burnt smell.

It sounds like your syncros are shot...The only reason why it only shows up in low range is cuz the gears "feel" tighter cuz of the gear reduction, making it harder to get in gear...I would rule out the tcase, and would go for a trans rebuild
