What are some symptoms of a bad cell in a battery? I've been having starting issues and suspect it's the battery. Sometimes it doesn't want to turn over. It's intermittent. I can let it set all week and it starts other times it don't right away. If it starts one day and I drive it the next, it won't start sometimes. When it won't start I'll turn the key, it will try to crank but acts like it's dead. I then have to turn the key to the off position, wait a few seconds, try it again, and it will start right up.

Thanks,

Todd

Sounds like a loose connection to me. Check your battery cables and cables to the solinoid and starter. If it works fine sometimes and not other times then its more then likely loose connections because if a battery was bad it would turn over like junk all the time.

Also check the Alternator connections. If it still persists then take the stuff over to autozone.

No, they can check it with it still installed.

Cables have a tendency to corrode under the insulation.

I agree with the above quotes.

I haven't had the chance to check yet, but if the alternator was bad would it not charge? So wouldn't I need to jump it all the time. It will always start on its own power, just not always the first crank.

If the Battery has 12+ volts it does not have a bad cell.
When you loose a cell in a battery the voltage will drop 2.2 volts.
A fully charged battery will read 12.6 volts or higher.

First look at the date on the battery,is it 5 yrs or older?
If there is no date code on it look for a round sticker with a letter and number on it.....A=januray B=February and so on the number will be the last digit in the year.
A5 will be Jan 05.

Batteries do crazy stuff when they get old and at 5 years or more they really get flaky. If its in the 5 year range have it tested. If it cant handle at least a 500 cca test replace it.
Check your ground and hot cables for connection issues, after that check the starter.
