bad ac compressor

looking at some of the parts on Earl's link... 50 bucks for a shaft seal... plus I did not see everything needed for a complete rebuild, mostly just o-rings and the clutch bearing.

If this compressor has truly failed (siezed or black death) I would replace it. you can get one off of rockauto for about 165 bucks with a brand new clutch installed and a 2 year warranty.

if you want your a/c to work and stay working, you will want to replace the accumulator/ dryer, orifice tube and possibly the hoses. the components that you don't replace you will need to flush with an a/c flush solvent to get the crud out of them, and for the condenser and evaporator, you might not be able to flush them good enough. if you have the black death, replace all the components, hoses/ evaporator/ condenser or that stuff will ruin your new compressor very quickly.

If you don't have a seized/ black death situation, you can get away with flushing the components. This is what I did earlier this year. I got the vent temp down to about 40 degrees after the rebuild :)

In short order, to do it right, you are going to spend about 500 bucks on parts. possibly 700 if you get the evaporator and condenser.
