i have a single chamber muffler on my 2003 3.0 it sounds good to me . but i have been told it should not be making the poping sound .Is it going to cause me any long term problems . can any one give me some info on this situation :icon_confused:

it could be bad on the exhaust valves and you could burn them up if its bad enough now what is causeing the popping sounds could be... pipes are to big,or the muffler is to big. so i guess what i need to say is we need a bit more info on your exhaust setup other than a single chamber muffler like what brand or is it a cat back or new pipe from the cats to the tip. and does the new pipe if you have new pipe have ripples in the bends or are they smooth mandrel bent i think is what its called for a smooth bend some one correct me if im wrong and yes those ripples can make a big difference for example my neighbor had some crappy turn ups that bend up to go over the axle and they stoped just as they were about to drop to the other side of the axle and they had the so called ripples in the bends and it is on his 5.0 mustang and when he would push the clutch in it would pop really bad and after we cut those off the popping went away

nope, won't hurt it.

every exhaust system does this.. the difference is that with a stock system you can't hear it. and with a high flow system allows more unburned gasoline into the exhaust system where is burns from the intense heat.. thus a popping sound.
