From top looking down, 2green wires?
The 94 m5 has 2 screw in plug switches the 98 only has one.

I hope I didn't lose a good friend over this transmission swap out what a beach!!!

Some of the older M5R1s had neutral switch which was not used in most Rangers, clutch pedal switch was used, in 1998 for sure only clutch pedal switch was neutral indicator.

1994 2WD trans would also have speedometer cable/VSS hook up on tailshaft, that a 1998 2WD trans wouldn't have

Ron, they were both four-wheel drive m5s, and yes the 94 speedometer cable goes in the t-case

there was a harness from the old truck that plugged into both of those transmission connectors which one is the actual backup switch?

Would there have been a an additional switch wired in for the t-case motor?
Thanks for the help!!

Passenger side is Neutral switch
Drivers side back up switch

Was the old truck an explorer, I know they did use neutral switch, not that it matters
The neutral switch went to computer and 4x4 module

Ranger 94 XLT 5 speed supercab 4.0, 4wd. The 98 transmission came out of a 4 wheel drive 5 speed 4.0 also

I'm guessing the neutral switch was for the transfer case? Just twist those two together? they are green.

which is not an important at this time because it may be a year before I get around to dealing with the four-wheel drive motor gem modules etc.

I'm just hoping the truck will start when we finally get everything together.

We even have a new clutch safety switch, my gawd that is an awful job changing out the hydraulics!

It gets easier after you do it five or six times. :icon_thumby:

Lol Rrrrrrright! Do you know the Rhino pack clutch hydraulic set they don't give you any installation instructions they give you bleeding and how to remove but nothing about the installation routing the line or if you need to do anything with the bearing?

Something about a circlip?

Better pics, yes 2 green wires, have their own plug,

None of the ones I ever got had any install instructions.

It took hours to figure out that the plastic line dips down next to the frame then over it sheese!

Hank wants me to just put a switch on those two green wires, I want to manual transfer case lol

I don't think that switch has anything to do with 4x4. It's supposed to be for idle speed corrections.

Those 2 green wires are connected when neutral switch is Closed, so in neutral

So just twist together and seal for the 1994

For the 1998 piggy back neutral switch with Back up light switch so when you shift to neutral Backup Lights come on, scare those tailgaters, lol :)

Well, it has high idle, but I assumed it's the IAC. my guess is when a wire is the same color in and out it is a series switch, I cannot find any information on and it I've been searching. Everything that comes up is always about bypassing the clutch safety switch under the dashboard
Thank you gentleman!

Unplug the IAC Valve after engine is warmed up and idling
RPMs should drop to 500 or engine may stumble and stall, either is good it means no vacuum leak.

If idle stays high then there is a vacuum leak

Everything seems to work!! we dropped it down put her on her own wheels! what a job OMG

thank you all again for your help!

I'll be checking in with some more tidbits.

Ron ASM, maybe you can advise to make the electric 4-wheel drive work "someday" previous owner tore everything apart I mean everything all the modules switches wiring underneath and the motor

although like everybody else I want a manual T case but have no idea where the handles would come through the floor lol
