Hey guys well I'm back, kept my truck. So the main reason I was gonna get rid of it was the reliability of the transmission. Kept blowin the front seal. So I want to swap it for a MT. So I'm lookin for some help, any would be great.

ill sell you my old m50d r1(hd?) for 100 bux. the only thing wrong is that it pops outta first sometimes but everything else is great. it only has 20,000 miles on it. i just got a new (used) one cause im too lazy to fix this one :D

Hmm will that work with my truck? An 86 2.9 4x4? Lemme look into it

I guess that's one of my big concerns is what transmission to use. I don't do a whole lot of off roading but I still need my transfer case to bolt up. Ive looked through the tech library but I don't know what to go with.

Well i don't want a trans that's not going to work. Prolly Goin to the junkyard in the next couple weeks (pick a part is having a 50%) So I'll find a donor and get what I can. Will I have any issues with driveline lenghths? I plan on finding a 4x4 truck same as mine just MT and pull eveything I'll need.

Any advice on which MT to go with? FM145? FM146? M5OD? Like I said I'm just lookin for a reliable one that won't present any major problems in a swap.

M5OD will be the easiest to swap in from an A4LD. It is the same length and such. You will need to make slight modifications to the shifter patch plate and floor pan for the shifter to line up right.

Also, the 4.0's M5OD is the most plentiful around, so they are easy to find and its a much better transmission than the FM series.
