Took a trip over the weekend from Columbus, Ohio to Salisbury, Pa. It was a 4.5 hour drive. Nice mountain scenery.... I've never been to PA before except maybe when I was on my way to D.C. in 5th grade.

Anyway, we took the wife's sport trac which has always been a gas hog. For the last month or so it's been getting a little better. Used to get 12-14 in town, now getting 15-17 in town. Anyway, on this trip we only used 1/2 a tank to go 250 miles. I filled it up in PA and checked the mileage....

22.2mpg! I am stunned. I had no idea a 4.0L with an auto tranny and live front axle could get that high of MPG's, especially since the last hour of the drive was up in the mountains running the engine around 3K for extended periods!

Trip home resulted in about the same. Little under 1/2, but we used the A/C some.

That is good news for you and me. I am currently looking for a vehicle for my wife. She likes the Sport Trac's, so we may go that route.

Glad you had a good vacation.

FYI, Winter mileage is HORRIBLE. She was getting 11-13 in the winter when using 4WD and stop and go traffic.

Like I said, it's been getting better and better all summer.

It does great on highway though. It got 19 in December on a highway trip of about 150 miles or so.

I also found out this weekend the seats are not real comfortable after a long drive.

Otherwise, does great in snow, twisty roads, etc.

We don't have to use 4wd here in the winter as much as you probably do in Columbus.

The good thing about the seats in the Sport Trac's are they can be upgraded to Explorer seats easily. I too found out this past weekend that '02+ Explorer seats are not very comfortable after a 6 hour ride.

Hers is a 2002, most likely the same seats.

She uses 4wd more than I do, it is easier for her to drive than slide around like I enjoy doing.

They are similar, but not exactly the same. The Explorer seats are flat with not bolstering.

You were in Salisbury PA. I live about 3 miles from Salisbury. The scenery here is nice just gotta watch out for the Amish buggies when driving around turns.

Yep... Wish I had known. We spent a lot of time at the little plaza with the Subway and dollar tree in it. Close to the pilot store. Spent $20 in candy at the candy store around the corner from it...

Checked out the wind power mills. Those are awesome.

I live about a mile or so past the pilot station.
Those windmills are kinda cool. I put the network switches in the ones in meyersdale. I also did work on the ones in WV.
Hilltop fruitmarket/Candyland has a lot of sweets I try to not go their to much because I end up with a bag of candy. :)

You hit that nail on the head. My 05 trac gets about that in the winter too. I usually hit around 17 in town in the summer, highway is about 21-22 .
