yeah i have a b4000 2 wheel drive does anyone know if they have lock posi rear ends i feel a thumping when i let off the eccelerator so i changed my carrier bearring and then jacked it up checked the ddrums those were fine left it jacked up started it up put it in drive and the driverside tire spun but the passenger side would spin a bit then stop hit the gas it would spin a bit then stop but it was always slow and hesitant bad axle shaft by cchance

What you have described sounds like the perfectly normal operation of an unloaded open differential being driven by the power train.

And while some Rangers came with Trac-lok limited slip ("posi" is a GM setup and junk needs to stay on junk) by the time your truck was built, it was pretty darn rare.

Also, bad LS clutches won't cause your symptom. Rear end backlash, slip yoke play and bad u-joints would be my first three suspects, in no particular order.

so do u think if i just replaced the whole rear end with a good one it would help or fix the problem

Is your truck by chance a stick? Higher mileage?

Good chance there's some wear in the rear axle. Mines got a pretty solid "clunk" when I get on and off the gas. I ended up building up an explorer axle I had.

However, replacing yours with a newer one with less miles is a very valid option.

Is the side that doesn't spin as much harder to turn by hand than the other?

Try turning the driveshaft by hand with the truck in neutral, if it rotates alot before it actually engages something, then yeah, there's some wear issues.

No, because I'm not convinced that your issue is in the rear axle. I think the drive shaft components are still a prime suspect.

ok well it is and automatic and ive changed the u joing right at the tranny carrier bearing that leaves me two more u joints but, with the truck jacked up and spinning the passenger tire by hand it has a good bit of play befor the drive shaft spins so i thaught it might be a axle gear the reason i thaught it was he carrier bearing is because when the thumping happens it feels like im being kicked in the but i dont know
