b2 stumbles

i have a 89 b2 2.9 4x4 5spd., when driving it sometimes it stumbles. and just sometimes. its like its running great then shuts off and starts again. if that mkes sence...lol. i dont have to restart it or nothing like that...it just stumbles and catches itself and keeps going. it does slow down a bit and if i am going slow it bucks alittle. i am thinking pickup coil.....am i on the right page or what do you think it might be?

that's where I'd start. plugs,wires,cap,rotor,fuel filter,air filter, etc...

or just 4.0 swap it...but as you can tell by my screen-name, that's also my answer! lol

No, the vehicle "stubling" doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Not really sure how a small SUV grows hair.

oooopppsss...stumbling...my bad...

yes a 4.0 would be great and i would like to mke it an automatic to...if i done this what would be the best tranny to use....i see very little mud...i like climbing and trailriding....moving to huntsville,al this summer so need something to handle the trails.

If you want a 4.0/ auto in your B2, find a 91-94 Explorer that got rolled over and buy it. Use everything, all engine wiring, computer, engine, trans, t-case, front axle and drive shaft, radiator, and the fuel lines from the filter forward.

My personal guess on your current issue would be a bad O2 sensor though.

really a bad o2 sensor....never would have thought of that..
yeah that would be the way to go but worried about the tranny out of ex being strong enough

the a4ld from the explorer is plenty strong, people hate on them... a lot of people have problems with them. I've not had much major stuff... right now I don't have OD and can't figure out why, but I've not really messed with it a lot. I've been more worried with my d35 swap up front.

I say if you keep the a4ld cool with good fluid/filter...one will last you a long time.

ok if it stays with me i will probably do a 4.0/auto swap....it kinda got its ass shown to it today...i have a good size rock garden at my house....the bronc had trouble with it and my kia made it look like a parking lot...got video to prove it....

I wanna see the video... I've never seen anything I'd call a rock garden a Kia could make it thru... Unless it's some weird built Kia.. Wait, can you build a Kia?! Lol

If that wasn't all because of your stumbling issue (video had no sound), then it probably just needs gears (the Kia an auto?)

A nicely setup BII with a stickshift (2.9L or 4.0L), a dual transfercase, and geared for whatever size tires you run will go just about anywhere you point it with ease (those little chunks of broken concrete would be like pebbles to it). Even just better gears in the axles by itself would help a lot (esp if you got 3.45s now).

Does it stumble right as you give it a little bit more gas sometimes? Might also check the TPS too if so.

OHHHH I see your problem...

your door doesn't match..

what's the specs on both?
gears? open diffs?

I think you should fix the running issue of the b2 then try it.
