So I discovered today that the Bronco II I bought the other week starts when you just turn the ignition switch. What do I do now? New tumbler? Anyone ever have this problem? It's kind of cool...but not really. Thanks y'all.

Lock the doors when you park it and don't tell anyone your secret. No ignition key = convenient for you.

Install a battery disconnect switch, and a fuel shut off switch, and remember to lock your doors, and consider it a blessing.

replace the lock cylinder...takes 5 minutes and its 15 bucks, u have no excuse not to lol

Aren't the keys already separate? One key for door locks and one key for ignition? That's how mine is.

Unlock door, put keys back in pocket, start vehicle, drive. Unless someone is with you, then put the ignition key in, just for show.

yes i believe the explorers were the first rbv to use one key for ignition and doors when they first came out in 91.

My contour's ignition use to be kind of the same. I could start it with a screwdriver, and i could remove the key once it was started. The most useful thing in the winter time! I wish my current truck could do that :(

So pull the lock apart and rip the tumblers out.

my 94 does it with the factory key...they key is just worn down, cant do it with my new spare key

once the ignition is past the steering wheel lock you can start it with no key

i rarely use the key since i figured it out

Usually what happens is dirt and crap accumulates in the lock cylinder for the ignition an gets the pins jammed up. Try spraying some penetrating lube in there and working the key in and out and turning it. Might free up the pins and make it work again. I'd do that before tearing things apart and replacing the cyl.

Its a Ford, starting with a screwdriver is normal behavior. Fords ignition switches are really good, but when they fail, they fail. You should really replace before it decides to really mess up and leave you stranded.
