Getting ready to get my new tranny swapped in next weekend and want to put all new fluids in the B2. What do you guys recommend for the front/rear diff? Tranny Fluid? What oil brand are you guys using? Thanks for any info.

Which transmission are you putting in? Auto, manual? M5OD, FM146? Automatics and the M5OD use Mercon ATF, all other manual trannys use 80w-90 gear oil. Differentials also use 90 weight gear oil (80w-90 or 75w-90). Transfer case also uses Mercon. Brand is not important.
 
Here's what I'm using:

Diff fluid: Redline 75w90
Engine: Redline (currently 0w20, would recommend 0w30 or 5w30, depending on temperature)

What transmission are you putting in?
 
Shell Rotella-T 15-40 is what I suggest for a 2.9 and 4.0 OHV, and I ran it in my 2.9 and in my current 4.0. It really helps with the ticking. I also run synthetic diff fluid, can't remember brand, I just grabbed what was at NAPA.
 
If you have a limited slip, yes. If not, it doesn't really matter. The synthetic stuff usually has it anyways.
 
I have an M5OD-R1 in mine. It's one I got from a junkyard. I took the chance and just put it in, assuming it would work. It works, but it makes gear noise. I changed the fluid to Redline MTL from Redline D4. It quieted the noise significantly.

So, if your transmission is generally quiet, stick to regular ATF or Redline D4. If it makes gear noise like mine did, then a synchromesh fluid or Redline MTL will quiet it down.

Unless you have a limited slip differential, you don't need additional friction modifier.
 
It's a completely rebuilt M5OD-R1. So i'm wondering if I should just use Redline MTL from the get go?
 
No. You should use Mercon ATF or Redline D4. The MTL has the undesirable side affect of making it difficult to shift when the temperature gets below about 20F. It can take a while to shift into second the first few times with mine, in winter. In summer it works fine. If you're in a warm climate the MTL would probably work fine though.

Its Snowing in Texas this winter. Where is a warm climate? lol
 
I bounce back and forth between Pennzoil and Valvoline High Mileage oil in 5w30. One of the two is usually on sale at the walmart by me, and i always run a motorcraft filer.

I have seen an increase of people say they are running the Rotella 15w40 oil because it has a higher amount of i think zinc, which our engines benefit from.
 
I have been using castrol edge 5-30 for about 2 years. Its a little $$$ but i go about twice the milage before change and it still has come out pretty clean. Engine runs sooth and I think i actually better performance (on the flat)
I also run about 1/4 can of seafoam before change also.

Nope, Rotella-T 15-40 has been recommended on this website since I started coming here in '02. Used to be pushed harder on this site than it is now. It's got more zddp than
regular oil, so it's more important for a 2.9 than it is for a 4.0. If 15-40 is too thick for you (I live in Maine and get away with it) you can run whatever oil you like and put in an additive, like from the GM dealership or http://www.zddplus.com/
