B2 Cooling Issue.

I've noticed that the B2 has been running a little warmer than usual on the interstate. On the temp gauge the truck normally runs between 180 and 210 and I've noticed the last few days it's been running closer to 210 in the afternoons on the interstate and at one point yesterday almost on 210.

When driving around on the street, stop and go it's normal. On the interestate at night it's normal or a little cooler.

The truck has already had a new water pump, thermostat done and I've got a fresh set of heads on it since it over heated a year ago.

There doesn't appear to be any leaks anywhere, and the coolant level is not low. The only thing I've noticed is that the expansion tank was empty.

We're averaging around 95 degrees and then humidity, so I was wondering if my 20 mile commute on the interstate in the afternoons is enough to make it run a little warmer or if something is wrong.

check your mix in the coolant run 30 coolant to 70 percent water at least for the summer.
 
Aftermarket temp gauge?

Mechanical or Electric fan?

The cooling system should be able to keep the truck right at where your thermostat opens under normal driving.

Check for, blocked/clogged radiator, weak fan clutch, collapsed radiator hoses..etc
 
if it over heated did you check the rad, old mechanic showed me that if the top is hot and the bottom is not then you more than likely have a pluged up rad. the side tanks will be hot and the finned area will be cool to the touch.
 
Swapping in the bigger two-row Explorer radiator can always help keep it cooler on those hot days.
 
If you bought new heads and are worried about it overheating, I would swap in an explorer rad. You can get them off ebay for $80 and they drop right in. Deffinetly an easy fix and improvemnet to you car.
 
if you go to autozone and ask for the radiator from a 92 ranger, 4.0, automatic, with A/C it'll be a three core radiator, i'm running one in my B2 right now and no problems at all with heat, and my fan clutch is broken.
 
The only hose that I haven't touched is the top radiator hose but it doesn't look or feel like it needs to be replaced.

Will the '92 Ranger Radiator bolt in with no issues/modification?
 
I drove it this morning to work and it's still running in between 180 and 210. It's staying under 210, but still a little bit warmer than normal, and cools down in stop and go street driving.

I did check this while it was still warm and the finned/mesh area was warm and not cool.

you'll need to SLIGHTLY modify the upper hose, that's all, cut a tiny bit off.
 
I'm going to drain a little coolant out and add some more water plus water wetter and see how it behaves.

If I get the same results I may go ahead and pick up the Explorer radiator.
