so i just bought a 93 ranger. as of right i havent driven it due to work that needs to be done but i was told by the previous owner that it is fully functional.
heres where i want your opinions. the p.o. said the guy who owned it before him tried to put in an aftermarket alarm system. the alarm isnt there now but somehow along the install he supposedly messed up the odometer but it still works fine.
i don't know exactly what he messed up because this is all the information he knew. so i had to check mileage misleading on the title because it could be wrong.
the only problem is i can't see how an alarm could mess up the odometer. and leave it working. idk. they arent even related.
any comments on what could have gotten messed up or do you think its possible i actually have 98k and the odometer is fine

icr if there is a reg psom involved with a 93. pretty easy to fawk those up though.

93 has a cable driven speedo so it would be impossible to screw that up with an alarm. Sounds like somethin's shady with the guy to me.

Yeah, there's no likelihood that an alarm could interfere with the cable-driven odometer. Sounds like the guy you bought it from was stupid, or lying to you. Mileage may be 98k, or 198k, but unlikely to be 298k.

thats what i figured. theres no way to tell how many times the odometer has rolled right?

Not directly, no. However, if you know what to look for, there are wear items that can serve as indicators, at least enough to tell the difference between 100K and 200K miles. I don't know any specifics, though. You'll have to ask someone with more expertise than I.

i look at the seats and the disk brake rotors.
seats with 200 k are pretty well sat out.
rotors with 100k still look pretty good.
