driving the ranger last night wheel come off bent lugs. So was going to just replace axle but the one from a 99 ranger is a half inch longer dose it matter and should replace both? Thanks joey

If the axle itself is undamaged, the lugs can be replaced. It may require cutting a portion of the lugs off, if they're bent too badly.

You only need to replace the one with issues... there are two different axle widths and all are in year ranges so should be fairly easy to find. The narrow ones are '83-92 and wider are '93 and up. There was a change in the drum centering ring on the shaft somewhere around '97 I think so watch out for that

+1 if axle is undamaged just replace wheel studs..

I recently replaced the studs on my 91 Ranger rear axle. It is pretty easy. Put rear on jackstands. Remove wheels and drums. Use a heavy hammer and give a sharp rap against the stud, driving it out. Make sure there is room for it to come out, if IIRC the stud should be at about 5:00. Once the ruined studs are out, put the new ones in place, rotating the stud so the serrations line up. Use some never-sieze on the threads and on an old nut to draw the stud up tight into the hole. Congratulations, you've just completed you first stud replacement. Don't tell your wife ;) Have a beer.
