I have a 88' 2wd 5 speed Ranger with a 2.0. The axle size is an open 6 7/8" axle with a 3.45 ratio. I was wonderin it I could swap for a L/S 7.5 axle? or change the gears to limited slip? I do not know much about axles. So forgive me if this is a dump question. I would like to learn.

I didn't think there was a 6 7/8" axle option. Anyway, you should be able to put a 7.5" axle, even an 8.8", under your truck with no problem. In the tech section is an area about rearends [axles] and gears and L/S. You should be able to answer all your questions with a little research.
Good luck,

Richard

the 6 7/8" axle was an '83 only thing I believe, anything else would have a 7.5 or 8.8 (in appropriate time frame and trim model). Since you should have RABS (look for a sensor near the very top of the axle) you'll want a '87-89 axle unless you swap to the pinion flange from a '90 or newer truck, if you did that you would be open to anything up to the last rangers made as a bolt in swap...

Yeah i read the code wrong on the tag. I do have a 7.5 axle i looked at it really close. so i am going to look for a limited slip axle or gears to go in it.
