axle swap

i have a 97 with a 4.10 7.5 in it and its goin bad but i have a donor truck that my dad got from a guy that he bought a 2.3 diesel ranger from but its a 87ish with a 7.5 3.45. would it be possible to just swap axles entirely or am i gonna have to pull them both apart and swap the gears and bearings

The axles are different widths. The gears are interchangeable, but why you would want to go from 4.10s to 3.45s is beyond me.

Just think of that fuel economy.... besides, with a 4.0 and a 5 speed it might not be that bad, but god help a 3.0....

The little diesel survives on torque numbers. I doubt you'd get to 60MPH with 410s in it.

The OP never said what engine he has in his '97. You think the 3.0l is bad.... imagine the 4 cyl.

I know he never said, thats why I was being hypothetical about a 4.0 possibly being liveable, but a 3.0 would fall on it's face. I have 4.10s and have tried a 3.0 with 3.73s and couldn't imagine 3.45s
