Ok so I have a 91 explorer w/3.73ls, which Im pulling out to put in my 87 ranger. I have a 5/94 parts explorer that has 3.27 opens. but today I discovered that the 94s have abs and what appears to be speed sensors. So my ??s is will the '94-3.27 go in the 91 w/out major mods. I was going to change the entire axles over, and get a little better mileage in the 91(wifes rig)

yeah just dont hook up what wasnt originally there lol

. I tried a couple weeks ago also and got the same message. I recently moved and have crappy internet now so I'm not 100% sure its the site. Anyone else???

What are you talking about?

I think he's asking if he can swap axles and if the RABS/ABS sensors will be an issue.

Rewritten: "Ok so I have a 91 Explorer w/3.73 Limited Slip gears, which I would like to transplant into my 87 Ranger. I also have a 94 Explorer with 3.27 gears in an open differential. So today after further inspection I found that the 94 Explorer (with the 3.27 open diff) has ABS/RABS with what looks like speed sensors. So my question is, will the 94 Explorer 3.27 open diff fit onto the 91 explorer with 3.73 limited slip diff without too much extra modification? My plan was to swap the axles to get better mileage in the 91 Explorer (My wifes vehicle).

ALL RBV's '87 and newer (I believe, it might have been an option in '87) have RABS so they have the sensor on the top of the rear differential, so that means that ALL explorers have that sensor on the rear diff. in '94 they started having 4 wheel ABS so they had sensors in the front knuckles. If you are swapping both front and rear axles I would suggest just pulling the drivers side axle beams and swapping the 3rd members so you don't have to take apart 4 balljoints...

beating a dead horse

My original post is now 4 yrs old. the swap never happened, and I don't own either vehicle any more.

why.....why would you have to take apart 4 balljoints to do a piglet swap?????? popping the caliper and radius arm and pivot bolt...for sure....would be the easy button....not sure why balljoints come into play....what did i miss?

hell on my long link suspension and clipped 3rd you would not even have to pull the tires off if you wanted to prove a point.

pull the beam pivot bolt....undo the brakline extension and drag it out till the slip come apart....unbolt piglet and slide it away from the shaft. i did it and it sucked...but it can be done.

usually, i took the drivers side tire off and removed the caliper because it was much faster that way....but dont have to pull the lockouts off. shafts stay put....unless they were broken too.

Front ABS, thought that was a different knuckle, I was saying swapping beams would be much easier than swapping the pig and knuckles :)

Didn't look at the original date, I usually do.. :)

ahhh.... i knew i was missing something in that implication...

but th spambot is still an assshole.
