I removed my warped axle shaft today and am picking up the new one tomorrow, I'm assuming that I can leave the original oil seal as long as it's not damaged?
Also while on the topic My haynes manual says I got to apply thread locking compound to the lock bolt which holds the pinion shaft in place. The problem I see here is it's full of oil inside so not really sure how I'm supposed to clean it up perfectly before applying the thread locking compound, I guess I'll just wipe it as good as I can.

If it wasn't leaking before you should be fine. That being said tho, you'll be kinda pissed if you get it back together and the axle seal leaks. Its only a 10 dollar part after all.

I don't know how that thin bit of rubber makes such a good seal especially considering how many revolotions a tire will spin in its lifetime.

Its all in the design of the lip seal and the spring that is inside it that keeps it tight to the shaft.

Get some brake cleaner, electrical contact cleaner (must be the "no-residue" type), or R/C car electric motor cleaner spray. Any one of these should work to clean the hole out of oil so the Loctite can take to it.
