axle questions

Im new to the sight so sorry if this question has been answered but i havnt been able to find the thread i have a mid 80's 4x4 ranger with 456 gears in the rear and a built 302 and not sure what to do with the front axle re gear or put somthing new up front any help would be great thx.

If the front axle that's under there now is the stock one (Dana28), I would definitely suggest swapping it. The Dana35 from an Explorer or later Ranger essentially bolts right in and is much sturdier. Nearly any gear ratio and/or locker you'd want can be had for the D35 as well (which of course includes 4.56 ).
