i have a 89 ranger 4x4 and the left side front ujoint area broke and the ears that hold the u joint are completely broke off. i found an axle for a 91-94 explorer will it fit my ranger. i need some info on what years are compat.

Yes, the Explorer front axle will fit no problem, and is a much stronger axle.

Search for D28 > D35 swap. You'll need to shorten your front driveshaft an inch or so to accommodate the D35's longer pinion.

are you talking the whole axle housing or just the shaft? i don't think the shaft will fit but the housing can be bolted in and is much stronger. i sheared the ears off my wheel joint as well and your lucky its the drivers side cuz you can just pull the spindle out and replace the shaft its only about 18" long and no c-clip. i paid $2 for mine at pick'n'pull

yes i am just wanting the axle shaft itself, i guess i should of made myself more clear, i am sorry about that. here where i live they want 100 bucks just for the shaft.

The axle shaft itself will not fit. Your running a Dana 28 front and the axle you have from the explorer is a Dana 35. If you want to just put another shaft in try getting one from a junk yard, usually around $25. Heres a tip for ya, If you do get one from junk yard keep the spindle nuts that hold the wheel bearings on. After removing the hub, rotor, wheel bearings, and the 5 nuts holding the spindle onto the steering knuckle; thread one of the extra nuts on the spindle and hit it hard with a hammer until the spindle starts to seperate from the knuckle, at that point tap a chisel into the gap then hit the nut again from opposite side. Keep tapping in the chisel and hitting the spindle nut until the spindle pops off. Just be EXTREMLY CAREFUL NOT TO HIT SPINDLE THREADS or youll need a new spindle also. Ive done this many times on my Dana 28 front and its always worked well.
