Im replacing the axle bushings, I pressed out the middle metal sleve, and the rubber it self. It looks like there is an outer metal sleve that has to come out. Can i leave this in or do i have to get it out to put in new bushings?

the outer sleeve needs to stay. i replaced mine not long ago. i had to use a hole saw to cut out most of the rubber bushing, burned the rest out with a torch. the outer sleeve stays in, then the new bushing goes inside that sleeve. i *think* that ford's replacement bushings have a metal sleeve on the outside of them, im not sure though. i used poly bushings.

yea, if you use aftermarket poly bushings like the duff bushings then you leave the outter sleve in place and the poly bushings just fit into the sleeve. If you use a factory replacement bushing like ford ones then you should press out the old sleeve and the new bushing with sleeve has to be pressed into place correctly.

Cool guys thanks for the replies. I now have a long weekend of working on my front end haha.

FYI, if there are small amounts of residual rubber inside the outer sleeves, you can burn them out with a propane torch. Most poly replacement bushings fit inside that sleeve. Most stock replacements have their own sleeve. You can cave it in with a sledgehammer and punch to get it out.

Thanks for the tip, the sledgehammer and chizel worked pretty good to get that thing out.

what about the ones energy offers cause those have a sleeve around them do i need to leave the stock sleeve in there still

If your replacements come with a metal outer sleeve the factory outer sleeve must be removed.
