I would like to know how to decipher my axle tag numbers. On my front axle I have a D028M and on my rear I have V318A.
I think that the front is a Dana 35 3.37 8.8” 28 spline. Does this mean i can take a LS 8.8” 3.37 mustang GT diff and put it in the front of my Ranger?
Thanks
Tim

The front axle is not a Ford 8.8. It is a Dana 35 low pinion differential.

There were never 3.37 gears available. 3.73:1 is more likely what it is.

The rear axle of the truck will be the 28 spline 8.8.

yup you are right i did not type that right. 3.73 is the correct ratio.

So will the 8.8" GT diff fit in the front???

No. The front diff in your Ranger is a Dana 35.

The rear diff is an 8.8.

You cannot put 8.8 parts into a Dana axle.

Ok. So I guess that only Dana 35 stuff will fit in the front. There are no other aftermarket parts that will fit that may be cheaper?
My next question would be why does Dana quote a diff for the rear if it is a ford rear?

there's a dana 35 that is used in the rear of many Jeeps out there, there's a few parts interchangeable with those, but I don't think there's much available for the '98 and newer Ranger D35's
