in my ranger which is a 3.55:1 gear set according the the tech library on this site.

whats weird is it has the factory installed tow package with auto tranny... dare i say if i put some 3.73's or 4.10's it would haul even more ass? worse gas mileage? it cruses at 2200 rpms at 65

Up to about 2500 RPM cruising I don't see much impact on your mileage.

What size are the tires you're running?

29.5 but getting 31's here soon i runnin on slicks.

or i might do a 3 inch and some 33's

I'd go to at least 4.10s, or even 4.56 if you're planning on 33s.

with 4.56s and 33s what rpm will that put me at cruising on the freeway

With the auto tranny (TC locked), probably around 2260 RPM @ 65 MPH. You could even do 4.88 gears too, which would put you a little over 2400.

4.0/a4ld/4.56's/33's is PERFECT for my b2, IMO.
i'm glad i didn't decide on 4.10's.

ive got the 5r55e i know its basically the same tranny but not sure what the final drive is
so im thinking 4.56s i might do 410si think the 4.0 has the power to pull them

Personally, I'm glad I was talked into 4.56's
My truck gets used around town and trails. Very few interstate miles... If you drive a lot of interstate you may want 4.10's but I don't think you'll like it around town. Stop and go is what killed me when I ha 3.73's and 33's but now, it doesn't bother me.

If you wanna know you rpms at certain speed....
Try this

i drive 30 miles a day freeway so i need to keep my rpms down a little. but at the same time i do more driving around town on the weekend than my commute to work. i drive up to 250 from friday night to sunday.

i cant even imagine how fast my drive shaft would be spinning with that combo kinda freeky to think about lol

I have 5.13s and 35s... Never had any issues in the 35,000 or so miles I've put on it.

All RBV automatics have the same 0.75:1 OD ratio. Sounds to me like 4.56 is the one to go with in your case.

I had 3.45 with stock size tires. Went to 4.10 and 31" Works perfect for me, the speedo is off by 6% according to my gps. 100kph speedo=94kph gps. Helps in avoiding speeding tickets.
