If you are thinking or deciding to put a straight axle in your Ranger or BroncoII. There are somethings you will need to know as in what axle do you want to use, etc.
Dana 44 that can possibly be used and is about the same length would be out of a Jeep Cj (70s).
Dana 44 straight axles are the most common swapped into the Rangers and BroncoIIs. These axles can handle alot of power BUT if you want to go all out and put you a big ass BBF 460 in it and it's putting out torque and horsepower up around 500+, I would suggest you switch to the Dana 60 though prices can range from FREE to $1000 for a good Dana 60.
Dana 44 can possibly handle the powerhouse but it would be a good idea to switch to aftermarket shafts but in the end with buying the shafts...it would have been better going with the Dana 60.
Dana 60s are a more heavier axle and can usually be found under F250-F350s. You can also use Chevrolet and Dodge and many other straight axles if you prefer.
But most of you will usually have a 4 banger, v6, or 302 in your vehicle so a Dana 44 will be fine.
As for the rear end, the Ford 9 inch can be used. Earlier Broncos (early to mid 70s) will have about the size you will need.
But again, if you plan to go all out and put a big ass engine in with alot of power it would be best to go to a 14 bolt rear end, Dana 60 or Dana 70. The 9 inch may can hold, it has been done. It is totally up to you.
If you can't manage to get the right size axle and it extends outside your Ranger/BroncoII then you will need to weld and fab you up some brackets and leaf spring mounts.
As for the front axle chart...
