I recently bought the avm hubs through rugged ridge the first set i found the passenger side self destructed but were still there. So i got it warranted and put a new one on and that dissappeared. The driver side hung on till a day or 2 ago. anyone have any clue of whats goin on?

Yeah thats what you get for making the entire thing out of metal and then having it held on by plastic (military grade or not...) Its a fairly common problem and its the only thing holding me back from buying them, some people say they lose them after a few weeks and some still have them...

yeah, didnt take long for me to not recommend them after installing them for a few individuals.

my new answer is. if you want lockouts, get a real axle.

mine worked great but i had that problem when i put them on but i got lucky and found it my problem was at some point in time before i got my ranger somone changed the right side hub and didnt put the plastic washer thing in and it let the axle move back and forth just enough to knock it off my hub

has anyone put the newer model hubs and axle shafts in where they are solid mount to the hubs with a nut on the end of the shaft?

Yes. the '95-'00 explorers have them and so do the '01-current rangers. I did this swap with all the parts from an explorer.

did you have to use the knuckle or just the hubs and shafts?

Just the hubs and shafts, the PVH knuckles have a vacuum tube that just needs to be capped so debris doesn't get to the bearings.

i had the same problem with the avm hubs. i put a peice of tie wire around the plastic fingers and they stayed on. i just ended up doing the live axle swap. works great.
