Average mileage til rebuild on a 2.9L

Do you think with everything stock on my 1991 ranger xlt super cab the motor could handle a 6" bds lift and 35s with trimmed fenders? Please let me know

You will be the first to know. :icon_thumby:

That's pretty funny right there PsychoPete. Every thread about the A4LD makes me shudder. My 2.9 has 130k on it and runs great. It was well cared for and will easily out run my F150 with the wimpy-ass 4.6. I'd have no reservations about going on a 1000 mile road trip.

I used to have a 1990 Ranger 2.9. It had over 250,000 miles on it when I sold it. Still ran great. I saw the guy about 10 years later still driving it. I asked him if he had the motor let loose yet. He told me no. He wanted to know how many miles I thought it had as the speedos roll at 100k. We figured out that it had over 350,000 miles on it. The whole time I had owned it all it got was Mobil 1 in the cranks case. It was still running good.

I just pulled mine at 151k to replace all the seals, minus valves and piston rings, because it was leaking a quart of oil per fill up. the jury's still out as to whether or not it will run again but its still a work in progress.

I had a hair over 200k on my original when I swapped it. It had been run on cheap oil and beat like a 15 year ild kid's wiener the whole time. It was getting weak on the hills but still ran well. I tore it apart and could still read part numbers printed on the main bearings.

Heptofite had over 400k on his 86 when the flex plate broke and the engine revved above 6k and tore the bottom end up.
