As I'm sure some of you know I worked at AutoZone for the past 3 years. At the start of our fiscal year I was promoted to commercial sales manager. The job came with more hours and a raise. Well I certainly got more hours than I wanted working off the clock after my shift just about everyday I worked and working on my days off... while off the clock. When I inquired why my checks still reflected my old pay rate I was told it would be taken care of with a retro back check. Months went by and nothing happened. All that time being told "I (my district manager) can't send in the paperwork right now". I have checked with multiple people since I have left the company if I would ever see my hard earned money. Last night I sent a message to that district manager and received the reply. "...you expect something from me..."

So I urge you please take your business somewhere else where they pay their employees for the time they put in.

thats a shame. yeah my gf works at a bank and the old manager pulled her along about a raise for almost a year. saying "i just need you to do one more thing, complete one more task, meet one more goal" etc etc etc, saying she would get it next month.

i wonder if they get enjoyment out of toying with people?

Sorry to hear about this, and I am by no means trying to add insult to injury, but why in the world would you work off the clock?

Is the issue just the pay increase you never got or the hours you worked off the clock? If it's the latter, you might be SOL if there's no documentation of the hours worked.

Is "commercial sales manager" still an hourly position?

you are going to have to go above the ditrict managers head, call up human resources yourself and u have ur pay stubs and u have proof of the position u were at, i know all about getting screwed at autozone/advance/oriely i worked at advance for a extended period until i started to make a funk because i noticed that they were TAKING hours from me on the average of 20 hours a week, if i was at the store working i WAS clocked in, and was supposed to me a assistant manager but they refused to give me my pay raise, when i made a funk they fired me trying to pin THEFT on me, i told them if i really was guilty the cops would be here to arrest me....they let me go for "Failure to protect company assets" isnt that some bullshit.....

I would take the issue up with your State and their Department of Workforce Services. If they have enough evidence, they'll investigate and possibly construct a court hearing.

You shoulda taken them to court... If you have in writing that you were supposed to get a pay raise, and you've kept all your records, you already have them beat.

they wont give it to u, but all u have todo is get all ur commercial customers signe affidavids and have them notarized, all the shops i dealt with were willing todo it for me when advance ****ed me over.... they said i wasnt running commercial, but the fact that i talked to all the shops ALL the time proved them wrong....

i'm a PSM at autozone at the busiest store in raleigh and our commercial managers work 55-60 hours every week. but i have to agree, why would you work off the clock? if i'm not clocked in, i dont do a damn thing for autozone.

sounds like you have a d-bag DM, ours isnt too bad, you just have to keep on him if you need something done. but they are busy as hell most of the time

Or proof you were promoted and performed the job description should do it too.

88_Eddie talk to anyone in the kc region under (pm me for the dm's name) you'll get the same damn thing about the hours off the clock and to be quite honest i don't really give a hoot about that i know i can't do anything about it. The thing that gets me is they made me the job offered the pay I accepted I watched my SM put the info into the system so my password would do what it needed to not to mention I watched him do the payrate change so the store reports would be accurate. And the kicker is that F***ING DM never sent in any of the paperwork to payroll. A great way to put this My regional Manager lives down the street from me and this still aint fixed nor will it ever be.

+1

I ended up taking a temporary commercial driver position at the local AZ to help give me some steady income through the winter since the construction business is so dead it smells rotten right now. Both the store manager, commercial manager and district manager all seem decent. When my shift ends, busy or not they tell me that I can go. Sometimes I go, sometimes I stick around and look stuff up for myself. If I'm there looking up parts for myself and a huge line forms, sometimes I'll offer to help someone - most of the time they just need to know what wipers they need or the like. Gives me practice looking things up. But I'm not going to man the counter for an hour if I'm off the clock. Might help one or two people then throw up the peace sign and head for the door. I'm not being paid enough to work for free - I have plenty of my own stuff to work on.

Sounds like your manager screwed you over. It can happen in any company. Thankfully I work with a bunch that seems pretty decent. If they were not, I'd have "hit the bricks" pretty quick. I don't take crap from anybody. I have zero tolerance for people who don't do their job. I'd say the DM wasn't doing his job.

Contact your state labor relations board.

I'd have been at the guy's throat so fast...
