Automotive technology you miss.

It's not really technology but I miss how the old trucks used to have the small window in the front corner of the front windows. You know, the smokers windows. Those were the best little air vents when you need to get cool air in. Don't know why they ever stopped making them... It's something that would be a minor selling point on a new truck now a days.

Isn't it amazing how much smoking effected automotive design?

My old 1960 glassmagic boat has a cigar lighter in it lol.

I dont think ive ever seen another boat with one.

Not all of the technology is bad, ignition systems are better and provide a lot hotter spark, roller cams reduce friction and improve power because they can tolerate steeper ramps, LED bulbs are brighter and use less power, automatic transmissions are way more dependable than they were in the past.
ABS and traction control are a useless nuisance, when the road is snow covered ABS actually prevents stopping- I've slid into the state road several times when my 04 or 11 Rangers' ABS activated. I hired a service advisor from our local Buick dealer who called them Anti stop brakes. Self braking cars enable "drivers" who don't pat attention.
There shouldn't be any controls in a vehicle that can't be operated in the dark by feel-that means no touch screens. Air bags are of questionable value if you seat belt is buckled and the head rest is properly adjusted and they can actually be a hazard if you aren't belted in during a crash when they go off.
Now they want to add rear seat occupant warnings to cars for negligent parents who don't remember their kid is in the car because they're on their "smart" phone and not paying attention.
Rear disc brakes are a waste, they require more maintenance to keep the slides from seizing in road salt areas and provide no benefit because when you're braking hard most of the weight is on the front wheels. Rear calipers with integral parking brakes are even worse.

My 86' grady white had one. And for some reason an ash tray... who needs an ash tray on a boat?

They also have bathrooms on boats.. let us hear your opinion on that.

That's what swim platforms are for.

I'll just echo what Walt said... but add that EFI is far better then giving the buying public over complicated carburators.

They are integrating that into car seats. They plug into the OBDII port and monitor the engine status and buckle in the infant seat. Neat idea.

I had more problems with springs breaking on my Ranger axle than I have had with the slide pins on my F-150. I have had the '150 a lot longer and it is almost as old as the Ranger was when I swapped disks on into it 8 years ago. :dntknw:

I have found that if I use the skinny pedal on the right as much as possible and avoid using the middle pedal, my brakes last longer. That middle pedal just slows me down and I can't stand that.

Unless I missed it in the thread. I think we forgot about one important thing that we all loved about the old cars and trucks. ROOM TO WORK!!!! I loved being able to sit in the engine bay and actually do the work. Im too cheap to buy a top side creeper.

But I have two middle pedals!?
