auto vs manual locking hubs

i have an 85 4x4 at i plan on taking the parts form to make a 89 4x2 a 4x4. should i get manual locking or keep the autos?

Manual locking hubs all the way if you plan on wheeling it.

You may have ECM issues if you have auto transmissions in them.

Additional gear reduction for things like backing trailers and pulling a boat up a ramp. It's not necessary, but really handy to have with a quick pull of a lever or push of a button.

Mile Markers are not bad if it is a Dana 44 or larger, but the hub flange that is used in RBV is very weak from Mile Marker.

I stand corrected.
I don't have any experience with the larger axles.

Their all weak unless you get the Warn 37780 lockouts.

ECM has nothing to do with the 4wd swap.

It does if you swap an '89-up A4LD into a vehicle that currently has a C5 or '85-87 A4LD.
