Hey guys, I just put my bronco on the road and two hours after the tranny went in it:bawling:. My bronco ii is a 1990 xl with an auto tranny. I believe it's an A4LD. I have an 87 ranger with a A4Ld almost new tranny. Will this bolt up and work on my 90 bronco or has something changed between these years that it won't work. PLease help, i need to get this thing up and running asap as it's my only vehicle at the moment.

yes it does have the 2.9. Thankx alot i'll start tearing into it tonight.:yahoo:

My bronco ii has a column shifter in it and the 87 ranger has a floor shifter in it. Will this cause problems. Also got my tranny out, just gott get back in the bush and try to get the other one out

Set em side by side and change the necessary hardware

a4ld

any a4ld will bolt up to a 2.9l a 4.0l tranny is stronger but you can use one from a 2.8,3.0l as well. You can not bolt anything to a 4.0l engine but a 4.0l tranny, the motor has to much power for it. The 4.0l tranny has a stronger build inside and with proper maintanace will last at least 500,000 kms like mine.

I was a mechanic for 30 years and own dozens of small ford trucks .I just bought a 1990 bronco ii eddie bauer edition and in the mist of slowly restoring it.

Found this Googling, looks like there's a little info out there on that subject

the earlier rangers with a floor shifter used a different shift "arm" on the side of the trans and it's impractical tro convert.

Don't know for sure when they switched to a computer controlled lock up, but the 90 may have an additional wire on the neutral safety switch on the side of the trans.

Back in the mid 70's I messed up the c4 in my 67 mustang. It was a floor shift and a buddy gave me a c4 from a Falcon. once I got it in I found that I had to make anew shift rod. floor trans to tree trans. Then all the the shift indacitors were backwards. Park=1st,rev=2and so on. Nobody could steal it cause they couldn't figrue out the shift pattern.Lol
