I want to convert my 96' 2.3 auto to 5 speed and I want to know what I'm about to get myself into I just can't stand my a4ld acting up all the time slipping and losing overdrive and I prefer 5 speed anyway but I'd like to know what all I need to complete the swap any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Trans, pedals from a 5 speed, requires two dash pulls. Maybe a driveshaft. Maybe cutting a hole or removing the pop out for the master cylinder in the firewall.

Have to, no, by it might throw a trasns code. If you do this swap, you best bet is to buy a wrecked 5speed truck and steal all the parts you need from it and then scrap it with the stuff you took out. If you can haggle well enough, the swap might not cost you anything.

driveshaft is the same as both transmissions are the same length.

You might be able to get around pulling the dash by unbolting the parking brake pedal assembly which I've heard allows you to pull the pivot shaft for the pedals and swap the pedals that way...

Almost certain the slip yoke is different between auto & manual also.
