auto to manual on a 98 4x4

ok i know it been covered but i'm not finding the answer i need. i am swapping in a m5od on my 98 4.0 4x4. what years m50d will fit my 4.0? i think it was 96ish when they went to the sohc, and i remember the bell housing is different. just want to make sure before i buy anything i cant use

If by SOHC, you mean 4.0 SOHC, they went to that engine in 01. from 98-2000 they had the OHV... I too am interested in swapping in a manual transmission in my 99 4.0 someday, Auto gets boring. I wish there was a writeup or something.

so if thats the case, a m5od from a 94 should work. right?

ALL 4.0 M5OD's will fit ANY 4.0. I put a '03 4.0 SOHC M50D-R1HD on my '97 Ranger 4.0 OHV without any problems.
