Got a 2001 Ranger, having some idle problems. Starts up and idles fine, around 750rpm, but after driving for any amount of time, when i put it in park or neutral, the rpms go to about 50, and at times my oil pressure gauge drops to zero, and then the rpms go up to 500 after it sputters for a second and the oil pressure returns to normal.

I'm thinking vacuum hose? What do yall think

I'm thinking IAC. Vacuum leak will cause a high idle. It's far less likely to cause it to drop out like that.

The low oil pressure can be explained by the fact that the oil pump is cam-driven, so when the engine bogs down the oil pump is spinning slower.

Thanks for the reply, i just mentioned the oil pressure deal to give you an idea of just how low the rpms were getting.

Ok. Sometimes its hard to tell on the web. I would start by cleaning the IAC.

What he said, maybe throw a can of seafoam through the brake booster vacuum hose as well, (half a can). Since you will have parts off the engine I would go ahead and clean the MAF, and TPS as well. If you can get to it clean the EGR, read up on this though, you dont wanna ruin that plunger.
