Hi my name is Jerry and I have a 87 Ranger that my Brother in law gave me and i got a plow system from my neighbor. I got everything together and made a few passes and the left hub started slipping when I tried to back up. It got to the point where it did not want to back up. I took the hub off and cleaned everything and put it together with no luck. My neighbor has a set of manuals on an 85 Bronco. Do I need to buy a conversion kit or can I get away with using what is on the Bronco? Or is there a way to make these full time 4wd since this is only a plow truck. I have gotten alot of good info from this forum on fixing up this truck and am very thankful for it. I hope someone can help with this problem. Thank you

yep take the auto hubs and the innards off and put the manual innards in an the hubs and should be good to go

Thanks alot guy's in the morning I will switch these out and hopefully be good to go. luckily we havent had much snow in the last two weeks and i have been using my snowblower. Again thanks for your help. Jerry

not a problem and also wouldnt hurt to track down a spare set of knobs for them. the plastic can break.

Just remember when taking the auto hub spindle nut off to get that Little wedge Out BEFORE you turn the nut. Or you may regret it.

ahh yes there a magnet can be your best friend:icon_thumby:

Read this BEFORE you start. Make sure you get what you need off the donor truck.. It is not as simple as pulling the auto off and sliding the manual on.

Thanks alot guys. I went to my neighbors and he gave me the manual hubs. it took about an hour to get them off. The hardest part was getting the jezus clips off, I ended up using long needle nose pliers and tapped them with a hammer and they popped right off. I took them to my shop and went to dinner. When I got back it took about another hour to put them together. I backed it out and everything works fine. Thanks very much for the advice. My other problem is I think that my slave cylinder is leaking. Can I change that by moving the trans. back or do i need to pull it? I can get a used one from my neighbor. I have a couple of great neighbors. Thanks again. Jerry

I've changed the throw out bearing by just sliding the trans back, should be able to do the slave as well, have to be able to work by feel tho unless you have a little mirror to slide up there

I have a question about my clutch system. I have not changed slave yet. I bled the system first to see if it would help like it said in my repair manual and it seemed ok for a while then it started shifting hard and if I pumped the pedal a few times it would work ok again. the fluid would get low like it was leaking but I could not see where. I really dont know if this is the slave cyl. or if it could be the clutch master cyl. Is there a way to find this out before I pull the trans. back apart?
