my dads 2000 ranger obviously has electric door locks. They do NOT work. They attempt to go either up or down and they do not unlock or lock, whether or not the doors are unlocked or locked they do not change position from either the driver or passenger side switches. Also the key ring button does not work either. Any ideas?

I'm no expert but almost sounds like the actuators gave out or stripped out or something. Seems odd that they would go out at the same time tho... Maybe they aren't getting enough power to operate the locks? Just some thoughts.

ya and this morning it actually unlocked and locked the passenger door twice...then it didn't after that. If i keep pressing the button every time it seems like its trying less and less after every push untill you can't even hear the door locks trying to work....

1. Replace actuators in doors
2. Replace battery in keyfob
:D

my brothers 00 has the same issue
we replaced the battery on the fob and still, no luck
i think the actuators are blown
prolly the prev owner messed too much jump starting it, cuz a lot of cluster lights were blown, even both airbag lights.
they try to move but like u said they try less everytime and then they dont even make a sound.
i think best option is replacement

you know i also noticed that for the temperature selector from red to blue, and to select defrost or heat on your feet or at shoulder level from the dash...well all of that should be lighted correct? Cause it is NOT when the lights come on....maybe this is my exact problem also.......

The price is pretty good for both. I found some on amazon from Directed electronics (manufacturer of Viper alarms etc.) for $20 each.

But those look like they might be bolt in. The Directed ones require a small amount of work I think.

yeah its supposed to have light.
ive replaced all the bulbs on my bros truck because of that.
i wouldnt recommend u junk yard locksd cuz they come inside the door latch
best option is universal locks hooked to the trucks oem wiring.
i think this could help...

is that supposed to be a diagram of the relays that control the door locks? so is that supposed to pass over the actuators if you just jumper some of the terminals?

My best guess would be worn actuators. My Zx2 does the same thing. I have to hold the button or press it a few times before it works, and you can hear it trying to work. Alarm still sets though, scares the shit out of me sometimes when I walk up to my "unlocked door that I forgot to lock" and open it. Turns out I did lock it, it just didn't work. If you stick your key in the door to lock or unlock it it still works fine though!

Just ordered up the new actuators last night! Mine does the same except mine won't work after a few pushes. I was suprised the other morning i jumped into my truck and it unlocked and locked the door twice then it wouldn't work and hasn't worked since. Thanks for the feedback guys i appriciate it!
