I have 2 Rockford Fosgate Punch DVC subs in seperate boxes. I also have a Rockford Fosgate A2 500 watt amplifier. I have a question about wiring all this. Driver side sub will be named D1 and pass side will be named P1. Power from the amp goes to the pos. and neg. on D1. From there wiring goes from pos. and neg. on D1 to P1, pos. and neg. I'm using the "left" output on my amp. Is this correct wiring?

No. I would just wire D1 to the left channel and P1 to the right channel.

The 2 channel amp would have 2 outputs, left and right, correct? If so, it's 2 channel.

Yeah, I googled it and found out it's a 2-channel amp. I edited my first post already.

It seems to hit a lot harder this way, I've had it wired like that before and it seems much quieter...

What would be the difference between wiring using 1 output or 2?

The amp is rated at 125wx2 at 4 ohms, and 250wx2 at 2 ohms. So if you hook up the subs D1 on left channel and P1 on right, (assuming the subs are 4 ohms) you have 125w going to each sub. If you hook it up on 1 channel like you described (parallel) it would give the amp a 2 ohm load, so the amp is putting out 250w per channel. So it's really the same thing actually.

Let that digest for a minute...

Now, to further complicate things...I re-read your post and you say your subs are DVC. How do you have each voice coil wired? Those might be either in series or parallel. Either way, they're not 4 ohms and I can't really recommend how to wire it until I know that.

That makes sense now. I do not know how each voice coil is wired. I'll have to take a look..

One pos and one neg coming from the amp, pos going to one voice coil and neg. going to the other voice coil. Then theres a jumper from the pos of one voice coil to the neg of the other. I have to go for a couple hours, but will be back. TYVM MUCH APPRECIATED.

EDIT: I realized you can leave the subs exactly the way they are and hook them up to each other the way you described. The ONLY thing you need to change is on the amp, use the positive on the left channel, and the negative on the right channel.

OR...you can hook it up the way I described below. Either way, the amp will put out the same amount of power.

OK that means the voice coils are wired in series, which basically makes each sub 8 ohms. That reduces the amount of power the amp can supply. You should connect both the voice coils together: pos of 1 coil to the pos of the other coil, and neg to neg. Then connect one of the coils to the amp. This would make each sub 2 ohms instead.

So, if you then hooked the subs up the way I originally described (D1 to left and P1 to right) You would get 250Wx2 at 2 ohms.

So it should look like this:

I understand now. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it! :headbang:

if its a two channel amp id bridge it and wire the subs probably in parallell or to the correct impedence
if you just use one output on the amp you can damage it, you have to use both channels or brige them.
you wll get the most bang for your buck that way (that is if its bridgable)

Alright I got it all wired up in parallel. I'm using both outputs, passenger sub to "left" output on the amp and drivers sub to the "right" output on the amp. They sound alright now, especially with rap music (lol). How would I bridge it, if I need to?
