Anyone who has a 1991-1997 Ford Ranger probably has a cracked gas filler neck. They split at the base near the tank. A dead giveaway is the embarassing leak upon filling up at the Kwiki-Mart. Every one I've seen in the JY is this way. so I ordered one from autoandart.com yesterday. I paid $30 plus $ 5 shipping. My concern is will it fit a stepside? No! they are completely different hoses! The filler neck part number for 1991-1997 fleetside Rangers is 9034R. Somebody correct me here if I'm wrong. The filler neck part number for 1993-1997 Stepside rangers is 9034RA. I know this for a fact. I was unable to find the correct part. I finally looked at the hose and found the part number painted on the hose (yours will be painted on if it's the original!) Here's how you can make a fleetside hose work on a stepside:

The stepside bed probably ways about 150 pounds(anyone know for sure?). It is very light. I found the lip at the front of the bed to be suitable for lifting. Hint! slightly screw in the two long bed bolts in the rear part of the bed before lifting. This keeps it from sliding off. I removed the tailgate and bumper for security. When swapping in the new filler neck be sure to reuse the original hose clamps. Why not clean the under carriage while you got the bed off? Enjoy filling up at the gas station and God bless you!

I lifted the the bed. A friend of mine has an overhead lift in his garage. But lifting the bed was the easiest method and the total repair time was between 30 and 35 minutes. We did not lift the bed all the way up, just high enough to have easy access to the top of the tank.

By the way, total repair time included removing the tool box, all the bed bolts, the repair, and putting the truck back together. It was not difficult

I just changed mine. I had a friend help me lift off the bed and it was very easy after that. I bought mine off ebay and it fit perfectly.

I just did mine last summer. Lift the bed off, it's 10X easier that way. You don't have to deal with rusted hardware for the fuel tank.

I just did mine two weeks ago.

I just lifted the bed by the filler neck and put a 4x4 wood post between frame and bed - dont need to lift whole bed.

It's a common problem on our trucks - mine was cracked badly on both ends - I had so many holes, I thought I just had really bad mileage - but I bet I lost alot of gas through evap.

for the filter - id replace if you havent ever done it yet - cheap insurance.

I got my filler neck off e-bay for around same price - dont go to parts store - they want almost $200

I fabbed 1 from PVC pipe and fittings. I used impact and did it under the truck (would be much simpler with bed raised) I also made a wooden gauge float on a lathe, then I painted it with fiber glass resin a couple of coats and replaced the broken OEM float.

lol
cool
you should change your name to the Ranger Magyver or something:D

fuel filler neck replacement

removing or sliding back the bed is the way to do the filler neck replacement
55 torx bit and a breaker bar to loosen up the bolts( 4 on a 6 ft box 6 on a 7 ft box plus one wiring plug behid rear bumper and three bolts inside the filler neck door bed should just lift straight up from there ( two guys can pick it up)
then just side it back after you clear the tires.
rest of it is pretty straight forward
I have a 7 ft box on my ranger(96) and the only problem was finding the right filler neck for it.

For all you stepside owners I just found out the hose is the same as the fleetsides only difference is the metal filler neck length on the bedside! Ahh what a relief, I stressed on that forever. so when you buy the hose reuse the top part of the original assembly. I get my hose tomorrow and will be taking some pics to post.
