Hey everyone, been picking at the threads a little and decided I'm gonna try it. A friend of a friend works at a volvo salvage yard and can get me a free turbo, and I am a mechanical engineering intern at a fabrication company, so I have all the materials and gadgets at my disposal. I'm looking to run a very low boost, 5psi max. Not expecting a lot of hp gains obviously, just make it a tiny bit quicker. When I get the turbo I will have a little better idea of what I will be doing, but right now I have questions about the wastegate. Are wastegates usually adjustable as far as lowering boost pressure? Also, might it be a good idea to put a pressure relief valve on the downstream side of the intake?

yes, wastegates are adjustable. just start witha 5 lb spring and get yourself a boost controller that can override the wastegate. A blow off valve or bypass valve is also a good thing to consider. Now while i have your attention...if your gonna run boost on this motor, all the aftermarket stuff is out there to do it right. you really ougut to conside spending some money on forged rods and pistons. if you get a hint of detonation with stock internals, motor is gonna go boom not vroom. If you want a good resource for turboing a 2.5 visit turborangerforums. tons of great info there. good luck!

Yep, the 2.5L is a good foundation to start with. Go check out racerwalsh for som internals. And if money is no object, go to bo-port.com

Plenty of aftermarket for the lima motors. As far as wastegate goes, I would recomend an internally wastegated turbo, and a E6 mani. A manual boost controller would be fine, they're under 50bucks.

If your gonna run 5lbs, and you know for a fact you wont turn the boost up more there's no need for forged internals or an intercooler. Just get ya a bigger maf and some slightly larger injectors and go get her tuned. If you do it right, It will be a nice mild turbo motor, And the best part is you can build it for under $500 if you search around and get some good deals.

dang, i didnt know you had a profile on here, i read your stuff all the time on TRF, small world the interweb is

yep I come over here a bit. I go thru phases, One month I'll be on trf religously then next month its over here Haha.
