AT Fluid Level Check

Please disregard this request. It was overfilled.

Sorry to ask a very basic question. I replaced the filter and filled 5 qt. of fluid. (A4LD), warmed it up, moved to different gears and left it in "P". The level is almost an inch above the hash mark. Per book, it is supposed to take 7.9 qts. I did not do anything to the torque convertor. Please let me know what I am doing wrong!

Note: I have a feeling that I added too much without draining the convertor.

Filling the trans isn't really an exact science. You need to sort of fill it little by little while continuously checking it until it's full. Don't trust what books say.

5 quarts sounds about right, I measured the amount I took out the last time I did a filter change and it was just over 5 quarts. I didn't drain the TC either - you actually can't without pulling it out... it doesn't have a drain plug.

I would look at the other side of the dipstick. Seems like it is accurate on one side and not the other, like it rubs on the dipstick tube and picks up fluid.

when it dont move put some oil in till it does. thats the high tech way. Just kidding I have a slow leak I believe from the pump seal need to add some every 2 months when it dont go in gear cold after it warms up a little it works just fine but put about 1/2 qt or so I dont over fill it leaks faster. I have only been putting it off for 4 yrs now.
