between the flare side and the straight side trucks? i ask because i was looking at market place on craigslist for ranger stuff and saw a flare side truck for sale but he had ribs, or bulges, where the bed was thinner then the cab. i thought about it this morning and looked at mine while in the parking lot and work and my factory built flare side cab is smooth on the back where the bed doesn't cover it.

maybe the factory built straight side bed trucks are different than the flare sides? i have no idea and no truck to compare to because the only other ranger i ever see close enough to walk over and look at in the parking lot is also a flare side

No, they are not different, regular or extended cab

Was it the same cab style (regular or extended cab)? If it was a regular, chances are it was a '97 or older which is a different cab than '98 and newer, the extended cabs were all the same basically other than with or without rear doors I believe.

It was a single.

I’m gonna have to look at the Rangers around here now… 4 fleetside and two step side, all supercab though. Think my 92 is smooth. The rest I’m not sure.

my ‘88 (supercab), ‘93 supercab & the 92 & 94 longbed reg cabs were all ribbed on the back side of the cabs, ‘97 also (reg cab longbed). not had or paid attention to anything newer than ‘97.
I looked through my photos and the only pictures I have of the back of the cab are the 94 & 97. Both reg cab longbed 2wd.

In these pictures, you can see the back of my 93 single cab. The bed was stepside/flare side.

The regular cab was redesigned in '98 pretty extensively, it got like 3" longer and gained the bigger extended cab rear window... my guess is this is the difference...

Maybe. See the silver cab truck has those ribs and bumps at the edges? My truck is smooth in those spots so mabe the newer ones are smoother on the edges like mentioned?
