Are BodyLifts Worth it?

Yeah, that is great, but only idiots or rich people buy the $1,000 kits. Like me and the other guy have been trying to say, you can make your own for a hell of a lot less then that.

I would like to mention that I'm 17 and just wanted to do a little wheeling. I have food on the table and a place to stay (at home with family) so its all good. I was figuring up my money and found that I would have about 150$ extra after gas and insurance savings etc. so its not like im blowing my rent on a lift lol. thnx for the input guys!

You can make a body lift for a lot less than $150 as well...

I just got home tonight. What a night my alternator went to lunch... good thing I have a parts explorer with a blown tranny :) Besides thread jacking my own thread... yeah I was thinking about this pipe and washers idea, sounds good, my friend did it to his 70's chevy.

less than 150$!!!! more money for women and beer! I mean umb... cruising in my blue bomber.. lol

just throw spacers under the coils and add-a-leafs out back. you will learn more and gain more. if you get into wheeling "hard core" you will trash the fenders any way so dont be afraid to cut them.

not to mention its CHEAPER so you can afford hookers and beer.

I bought some cheepo "coil spring boosters" the type you "thread in" and longer shackles like a month ago. But the boosters wont fit, I can't make my TTB droop far enough down, I guess its because of the radius arms.

spacers are just body lifts for your coils and you dont get beter flex. it all a mater of opinion

Build my own rad arms, (then broke and rebuild), built my own drop brackets. $40 junkyard leafs. $20 ebay blocks, $75 Bellteck shackles, $400 (?IIRC?) lift coils, and $60 brake lines. = $595
The experience = priceless (I just had to throw the cheese on top)

Or the shock? If you can get the booster in see what the camber looks like, if it is unacceptable then take them out for now. Swapping in longer shackles was a PITA, but it gives you some lift.....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't spacers put stress on your springs?
How would having spacers between the coil and the coil bucket be any different than just a plain coil bucket? I dont think they put anything but normal stress on the coils. (infact, i'm 99% sure)

Hmm.. I remember reading something about spacers being bad.. may have been something completely different. But hey, that's why I included correct me if I'm wrong. :icon_thumby:

Just because it's low budget doesn't mean they can't afford food if they build up their rig. Not everyone can afford the best shit, I'll pitch my rig up against a lot of higher budget rigs. My body lift works just fine.

if you ask me, my build is low budget. but its a rubicon dana 44 with with a detroit locker, chromoly axle shafts and 5.13 gears and had hydralic ram assist which i've removed. i also have a set of y-links and Bilstein 9100 Rock Crawler 12" coilovers which all ive collected for just under $800 for the SAS. this is way less than a suspension lift from superlift or even trailmaster.

this weekend ill be picking up a set of 5 35x12.50 15 bfgs with 95% tread for $400.

when i get done with the build, you can pitch your rig against mine.

I'm pretty sure youa re thinking of the type that gois IN the coil, not UNDER the coil.

There is no way in hell anybody will convince me to use thet type that go IN the coil.. They are dangerous! The spacer thing can pop out if you are not very careful.

But, a coil spacer, one that goes under the coil, is just fine in my opinion, as long as the nut is threaded sufficiently onto the bolt that stickes up

I think you two are both thinking of the opposite kind as one another.

I think he has the ones that go IN the spring, which I agree are not a good idea.
